THE distraught friend of a rough sleeper who died in a Taunton car park on Boxing Day has questioned how such a tragedy could happen in 21st Century Britain. Fellow homeless man Charles Gorst woke at around 8pm on Tuesday to discover paramedics working on his friend, known only as ‘Scotch’ Alan, on the top floor of High Street Car Park. Alan, originally from Glasgow and who has been in Taunton for ten years, was rushed by ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital , where he was pronounced dead. Mr Gorst, 47, who was brought up in Liverpool and came to Taunton in , said he believed the cause of death was hypothermia. I had a quilt, but Alan didn’t have anything except the clothes he was in. We were wet through. There was nowhere we could go for help. I don’t know what to do next.

His interest in radio was a result of a visit to the San Francisco World’s Fair. He and his father started Reno Motor Supply Company in , as dealers in auto and motor parts, later, they added radios and radio parts. Hadley obtained an amateur radio license 6ZO in He decided to try a commercial broadcast station and was issued a license on July 7, with the call letters, KFAS.

Hadley’s business, Reno Motor Supply Company, was listed as the station owner. The Class A Commercial Limited license was granted for a term of three months and the first expiration date was to be October 12, Hadley ran watts on a wavelength of meters using a ft. The license shows the station location at Elko Street. This is a residence still standing on the corner of 6th St. It is also possible that the KFAS transmitter was located at the Reno Motor Supply Company building on Plaza Street, there are reports of the station being located in the basement there.

Hadley probably utilized recordings for his advertised, tri-weekly concerts broadcast over KFAS. As with all broadcasting stations of the day, KFAS was supposed to share air time with other local broadcast stations, of which there was only the Broili’s station, KDZK. Both stations were initially assigned to meters because the Department of Commerce thought that all radio broadcast stations should be on the same wavelength and separated geographically, though this plan was never adhered to.

While he did refer to the days of Nelson and even earlier, his talk in the main focussed on the ships in the two World Wars. He described the different classes of ships and their uses and how smaller boatyards had been brought in to use to build vessels such as corvettes. These provided an important element in the escort of convoys. Phil explained how names were selected. Tradition, continuity or community support were important but care had also to be taken not to choose a name that could create confusion when signalling, to have a name appropriate to the class of vessel and not allocate a name that could be twisted into something that produced ridicule.

The re-use of a name was important and this allowed for battle honours awarded to an earlier vessel of that name to be handed down.

Name[ edit ] The suburb takes its name from the offshore reef first noted during a coastline traverse by Assistant Surveyor James Cowle in Although the modern-day name is spelt with a double ‘n’, the rocks are thought to have been named after Quin, who emigrated to Western Australia in , where he was appointed as an Assistant Surveyor on his arrival. He occupied this position for 22 years, carrying out most of his surveys in the Gingin – Moore River area, before passing away in July The general area on the coast opposite the rocks was referred to as Quinns Rocks by the Wanneroo Road Board when they requested the survey of a road that led there in November Later, the place also came to be called “Wanneroo Beach”.

An alternate origin of the name is after Mick Quinn, a sheep tender who worked for the Mindarie Pastoral Company in the early s. Early shack owners were restricted to no more than 48 hours in their shacks at one time without further permission from the Road Board. Have your say The Met Office has upgraded its weather warning covering the Fylde coast to amber – which means residents should ‘be prepared’ for disruption. Strong winds of around 60mph are set to batter the region from later this evening into tomorrow morning, at the same time heavy rain is expected to coincide with high tide, with emergency services and local authorities encouraging people to get ready for Storm Eleanor’s arrival.

The forecaster said its weather warning will remain in place from 7. One Coastguard official told The Gazette the warning was being taken seriously. On its website, the Met Office said an amber warning means ‘there is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting you, which could potentially disrupt your plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property.

The government’s flood warning information service said earlier widespread flooding is possible across Wyre, including in Cleveleys and Fleetwood.

History[ edit ] The site of the Abbey was effectively an island in the marshy and frequently flooded Somerset Levels. There is believed to have been a religious building erected on the site as early as , with a charter being granted by Cynewulf in , [4] [5] although the Benedictine monks were not established there until the 10th century. Viking raids in the area damaged some of the fabric of the abbey and necessitated rebuilding. The abbot successfully appropriated the nearby Perry Moor and surrounding areas and was involved in their drainage and management.

Obituary Glastonbury and the Shroud of Christ. Historical, Descriptive, Biographical in the Mates County Series, a folio volume profusely illustrated with contemporary photographs, in a fairly standard retelling of the story of Joseph of Arimathea at Glastonbury, is to be found the following: The staff [of Joseph of Arimathea], or, according to another account, a fragment of the crown of thorns that, planted by the pilgrim leader, grew up into the tree blossoming on Christmas Day, was only one of several relics that enriched the primitive oratory or its precincts.

To-day, the exact point at which Prince Arviragus received the holy travellers after their exhausting journey, survives in Wirral Weary all Hill. Close by rises Chalice Hill; here the new-comers first placed the cup, consecrated, not only by its use at the Last Supper, but by its having caught some of the precious drops from the Cross. That explains the ruddy tint of the waters from the adjoining Blood Spring and Holy Well.

The chapel of the seminary was made available for worship to local Roman Catholics. Their curiosity could only be stimulated by a paper read to the newly-formed Glastonbury Antiquarian Society in by Glastonbury notable G. Wright, which first publicised the Well as a place of mystery. It is hardly coincidence that Wright had previously been the owner of the property, and was responsible for its sale to the seminarians.

Though one mysterious company has gone about their job search in a way so sketchy that it’s left students and faculty seriously concerned as to whether it’s legit or a scam with dark consequences. It all began after University of Western’s school paper, The Western Gazette , published an article talking about a set of mysterious clipboards. The clipboards had been found in numerous lecture halls and were requesting student’s full names, phone numbers, faculties and what city they would be living in come Summer The odd thing was that there was no company name listed on the sign-up sheet.

Especially considering the spike in human trafficking schemes appearing on campuses in Canada, it isn’t dramatic to assume the worst. One of the professors at Western actually issued an announcement to students claiming he saw someone enter his classroom to place the clipboard on one of the desks in the class before asking students to fill it out.

Later on, the professor says the same man reappeared, “snatched the clipboard, and took off out the back door. Claiming that while the young man with the clipboard was still in the room, his Geography professor announced: Until there is some more clarity on the mysterious clipboard and the company behind it, it’s safe to say you probably should avoid signing up for any jobs on clipboards found in your classrooms.
